Adele surprises ill fan at the start of world tour

Adele

Adele has never been afraid to put her heart into her music — or into her fans.

The day after Monday's world tour opener in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the 25 singer ventured to Belfast’s Short Strand area and paid a visit to Rebecca Gibney, a 12-year-old fan who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and is blind. The visit followed campaigning on the part of Gibney’s mother, Tracy, who emailed Adele's manager and created a Facebook page back in November to raise awareness about her daughter’s condition and her wish to meet Adele.

During the visit, Adele offered the family tickets to her Tuesday concert at the SSE Arena Belfast and sat with the pre-teen, who has surpassed doctors' expectations after being given six months to live, according to the BBC.

Niall Ó Donnghaile, the current Sinn Féin Councillor and Belfast's former lord mayor, captured the meeting and shared it on Twitter. "Thank you so much @Adele for visiting the beautiful Rebecca in the Short Strand today," he wrote. "Made her & Tracy's year!!

Tracy also relayed her gratitude to Belfast Live afterward. “I am in shock," she said. "I got my baby's dream to come true. She was so nice – she could not have been nicer.”

The proud mother previously spoke about Adele's musical influence on her daughter last fall. “The only thing that she loves and that she can do is that she lies and listens to music," she told Belfast Live. "I put Adele on when Rebecca gets up in the morning. She smiles — she can't make noises or anything, but she smiles and her wee eyes light up.”
