St. Louis, MO — It may look like fried rice, but this is really a cupcake in disguise that you'll only find it at The Cup in the Central West End and Edwardsville this Friday and Saturday.
Owner Ericka Frank said, "We've been doing the April Fools' cupcake for four years. We've done a cupcake that mimics some type of savory food every year it looks like something that its not."
Frank loves laughing her way through Aprils Fools' Day and each year The Cup tries to outdo themselves.
"Our April fools' cupcakes started with mashed potatoes, second year was taco salad, last year we did a root beer float, and this year we have the fried rice," she said.
The fried rice isn't really rice at all, it's two different types of sprinkles. The scrambled egg is actually crumbled up yellow cake. The peas are made out of buttercream frosting. The carotts are orange candied discs that have been broken apart and the broccoli is Laffy Taffy. With golden yellow cake and chocolate buttercream frosting, there's nothing funny about the way it tastes.
The Fried Rice Cupcake will be available Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31 at both locations of The Cup (Central West End and Edwardsville, IL) until sold out. The Cup is closed on Sundays.
