KUSA – While the celebration continues over the Denver Broncos’ third super bowl win, the family of a season ticket holder is mourning a painful loss.

Bob Carney had been a season ticket holder for the Broncos since before the Super Bowl even existed. When the Broncos made it into Super Bowl 50, Carney decided to take his daughter to the big game.

Unfortunately the two didn’t make it all the way to the Super Bowl. Upon arriving in San Francisco, Carney collapsed and later passed away.

Ten days later, a funeral was held in Carney’s memory.

When the Broncos heard his story, they made a very special gesture. Before the service began, former cornerback Billy Thompson walked in with the Lombardi Trophy and placed it next to Carney’s casket.

Carney’s daughter, Cindy Hoffman, said she cried even more when she saw what the Broncos did for her dad.

Every guest at the funeral was moved by the special gesture. Even guests who weren’t football followers said they became Broncos fans in that moment.
