After being missing for weeks, a dog was reunited with its family in Wylie.
A violent hail storm hit almost 80 percent of Wylie homes in late April. The McCaffreys’ home was unlivable, and, to top it off, their dog was spooked and ran away from home.
Trevor McCaffrey said he was on his way home with his kids in the car when the storm hit. They noticed Pluto had run off when they were clearing debris in their back yard.
“He’s too spooked, too afraid,” Trevor said. “Every time we see him, he runs off.”
Days turned into weeks with no sign of Pluto. A dog rescue team set up traps. The McCaffreys posted everything they could on social media.
“My wife [was] upset, my kids, we just want[ed] him to come home,” Trevor said.
“The emotions were pressing down to being sad,” said Trevor’s son, Hunter. “I kept saying, ‘what if we don’t find Pluto?’”
Luckily for the McCaffreys, their break finally came. A neighbor spotted Pluto playing with another dog in the neighborhood, Walter.
“I don't know if it maybe made pluto feel more comfortable that he wasn't alone and there was another dog kind of happily trotting along,” Trevor said.
Pluto stuck around to play until his owners arrive.
“Once he finally realized who I was, he leaped into my arms started crying, sobbing, he was ready to finally go home,” Trevor said.
“I just ran to him and hugged him and was petting him,” Hunter said of the reunion. “He kind of pushed me down and licked me in the face.”
And to top off the excitement, Pluto's homecoming came on his fourth birthday.
“Hearing the dog bark makes things feel normal again,” Trevor said with a chuckle.
