The East-West Gateway Council of Governments plans to begin the search for a firm to conduct a security analysis of the MetroLink system.
The organization will begin seeking bids this month from consultants to conduct a systemwide security assessment, said Jim Wild, executive director of East-West Gateway.
East-West Gateway is undertaking the study at the request of the leaders of the three jurisdictions that fund MetroLink – St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger, St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson and St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern. The three signed a memo of understanding in May that outlined plans to improve security on the MetroLink line through steps such as forming a joint law enforcement task force with members from all three law enforcement agencies and increasing the number of officers dedicated to MetroLink from each jurisdiction.
