Man charged with DWI for crash 2017 that killed 14-month-old

According to a press release from the St. Louis County Police Department, Keshawn Hampton, 19, was charged with DWI resulting in the death of another for his role in a 2017 crash.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY – A 19-year-old man is facing a DWI charge for a crash that resulted in the death of a 14-month-old passenger in his car.

According to a press release from the St. Louis County Police Department, Keshawn Hampton, 19, was charged with DWI resulting in the death of another for his role in a 2017 crash.

The release said Hampton was driving on Sherwood Forest Drive in Florissant, Missouri, at a high speed on June 23. When he looked down to change a song on his phone, he hit a parked car and flipped his car.

Police said his breath smelled of alcohol and was slurring his speech when they arrived. A blood test showed he was above the legal limit and officers found open alcohol containers near the scene.

A 14-month-old child in the car was rushed to the hospital but later died. A woman in the car suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

Hampton's bail was set at $50,000.
