Mother of 5 killed by habitual drunk-driver in Lincoln County crash

The driver responsible had been charged with two prior DWI's in 2003 and 2007.

WINFIELD, Mo. — 5 On Your Side is learning more about a deadly crash on a Lincoln County bridge. The victim was a mother of five and grandmother of eight. And the man accused of hitting her was a suspected drunk driver.

60-year-old Zola Rodey was traveling southbound on Cuivre River Bridge Tuesday afternoon when 55-year-old Alonzo Cannon, who was traveling northbound, crossed over the median and hit Rodey head-on. Deputies report he was driving drunk and it's not the first time.

Cannon was charged with DWI's in 2003 and 2007. The State considers him a chronic offender.

5 On Your Side did some research and found that there were 250 suspected drivers under the influence involved in deadly crashes in Missouri in 2017. Of those, 21 of them had one or more previous DUI convictions. That means nearly one in ten were repeat offenders.
