One man is in custody and another is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in north St. Louis Thursday afternoon.

The shooting happened on the 3800 block of Maffitt at around 4:45 Thursday afternoon.

In a press conference, interim police chief Lawrence O'Toole said officers were patrolling when they say a stolen car with stolen license plates. The officers used spike strips to deflate the tires of the car, but it continued to flee. Police say the car eventually came to a stop and two men fled on foot.

According to O'Toole, one of the suspects pointed a gun at an officer who fired multiple shots, fearing for his life. The suspect, 26-year-old Wendell Davis, was shot in the upper torso and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Davis has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing a firearm, resisting arrest, and tampering with a motor vehicle.

The second suspect, 29-year-old Joshua Polk, was taken into custody. He has been charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
