DE SOTO, Mo. – As rain continues to pound areas across Missouri, residents in De Soto are bracing for the worst.
“Because of the rain it looks like the creek is rising,” said De Soto Police Chief Joe Edwards.
Several dozen homes back up to the Joachim Creek which runs right through town.
Water began to swell and spilled over the edge of the banks as of 6 p.m. Saturday.
Areas of Walther Park, just outside of the downtown area, were covered in water.
Delmar Watson’s mother lives right by the creek.
He said they’re used to seeing the water rise and spill into the homes.
His family moved their car and removed items from the garage in anticipation of flooding.
Chief Edwards warned residents to monitor the situation and evacuate if they thought it was going to get bad.
A temporary shelter has been set up at First Baptist Church to help anyone in need.
