COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KAGS) - Texas A&M University is receiving quite the praise after performing a mock graduation ceremony for a student whose father is battling cancer.

Jim Brewer is a class of 1980 graduate of Texas A&M. His son, Nick, who graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville reached out to the university saying that it was his wish to see his daughter graduate from the College of Engineering at the university.

On Tuesday, dozens of students attended the mock ceremony that took place in the driveway of the Brewers’ home in Austin. The Associate Dean of the college along with the Association of Former Students, President's Office, Provost's Office, Memorial Student Center, the College of Engineering, and Registrar's Office made the event possible.

"Everyone was really moved, including me, I got really choked up. The family was so grateful. The friends and guests were just amazed at how the university came together and was able to help this family with this request," said John Hurtado, an Associate Dean at the University.

Jim Brewer's daughter, Jenny, is expected to officially graduate from the university in May.
