5 firefighters injured in salvage yard fire

A spokesman for the Washington County Sheriff's Department said firefighters were sent to the hospital for issues including heat exhaustion, fatigue and high blood pressure. All were in stable condition at last check.

CADET, Mo – Five firefighters were injured while fighting a fire at a salvage yard in Cadet, Missouri, Tuesday night.

Firefighters with the Potosi Fire Department arrived on the scene of the fire at Brother's Salvage Yard on State Route 21 at around 3 p.m. The Potosi Fire Department was among the departments responding. It was their second major fire of the day. By 4, a third alarm was struck, calling more departments to the fire.

Firefighters on the scene said the fire was put out just after 7 p.m. It took between 50 and 75 firefighters from Potosi, De Soto and Jefferson County to put it out.

A spokesman for the Washington County Sheriff's Department said a total of five firefighters from Potosi and De Soto were sent to the hospital for issues including heat exhaustion, fatigue and high blood pressure. All were in stable condition at last check.

No word on what started the fire.
