'Bathroom Bill' Protesters Deliver Portable Toilet to NC Governor

RALEIGH, NC --When dozens of protesters showed up in Raleigh Friday, they were not empty handed.
In fact they brought Governor Pat McCrory a present, a portable toilet.

The portable toilet was dropped off on Capitol grounds Friday afternoon.
It’s in response to the passing of House Bill 2. Part of the legislation overturned the Charlotte ordinance that would allow transgender people to use the bathroom of the sex they identify with.

In response to sending the governor a toilet, one protester told WNCN News in Raleigh “Seeing as our Governor seems so concerned with our bathroom habits we’ve decided to bring him a little gift.”

The woman who organized Friday’s demonstration is from Asheville. She says the whole thing started off as a joke on Facebook, but soon took off.

Despite backlash from signing the bill, Governor McCrory defends his decision.

"I signed the bill to prevent basic local government overreach and intrusion into the expectation of privacy that people have, men, women and children have when they enter a restroom, locker room or shower facility," said McCrory during a 1-on-1 interview with 2 Wants to Know’s Chad Silber.
