A semi-truck pushed a car for nearly a minute down I-55 in St. Louis near the Arsenal St. exit Tuesday, and a terrified witness captured the frightening moments with his cell phone.

“I’ve never seen anything in my life like that,” the witness, Sanel Pilipovic, told 5 On Your Side.

Neither driver was hurt or ticketed. Police say the semi and car somehow merged into each other, and the truck driver claims he never knew the sedan was glued to his grill.

We asked the lead instructor for the truck driving program at St. Louis Community College to review the video. Seth Owens said the cab appears taller than the car, and it’s likely the driver didn’t see the sedan. Still, he said, the truck driver should have known something was wrong.

“He should have felt it. He should have sensed it. He should have seen the smoke,” Owens said.

Owens said he teaches his students that safety is their responsibility.

“When all the other cars are swimming in like schools of fishy, we have to be like the whale keeping space all around,” he said.
