Charges: Man killed wife by setting her on fire after dousing her in flammable substance

Andrew McKissick is facing charges of first-degree murder, aggravated arson and aggravated battery.

O’FALLON, Ill. – The husband of a woman found dead and badly burned outside of a car in O’Fallon, Illinois is facing three charges in her death.

Andrew McKissick was taken into custody late Monday night in Memphis.

According to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office, McKissick doused Sherry Billups with a diesel fuel supplement and started her on fire on April 22. Charges also said, he knowingly damaged Billups’ car, while she was in there.

Police responded to the 300 block of Obernuefemann Road on Monday where Billups was found badly burned. She was pronounced dead on scene. Friends told 5 On Your Side the two married just a couple months ago. 

He’s facing charges of first-degree murder, aggravated arson and aggravated battery.

His bond is set at $2 million and is awaiting extradition from Tennessee.

McKissick has a lengthy criminal history. His convictions include aggravated battery of a police officer and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He was paroled in 2018.
