Wanted Missouri 'armed and dangerous' man arrested in Arkansas

A woman from St. Louis spotted his car when she was driving in Arkansas.

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – A wanted man who Chesterfield police said was 'armed and dangerous' is in critical condition at an Arkansas hospital after trying to take his own life.

Police found Phillip Stroisch after a woman from St. Louis spotted his car when she was driving near Bald Knob, Arkansas.

She recognized the suspect's vehicle from news broadcasts and contacted local authorities, who arrested Stroisch on Wednesday night.

Police believe 42-year-old Phillip Stroisch, fired several rounds into a home on Forest Crest around 5 a.m. Tuesday. Two people who were inside were struck and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, the incident is believed to be connected to a domestic incident that occurred in the 500 block of Susan Road in south St. Louis County before the Chesterfield incident Tuesday. St. Louis County police are investigating the south county incident.

Neighbors, who live close by to the Chesterfield home said they were startled awake.

"All of a sudden, I heard it was around seven loud gunshots,” recalled Jayne Sokolich, who lives across the street. “It was like boom boom boom and then someone drove off."

Sokolich said she woke up the sound of gunshots just before 5 a.m.

“After the car drove off, that's what made me think ‘okay, I assume they had shot from outside,’ she said. “It was kind of scary though, my heart was racing a little bit,” she said.

For Sokolich, the news of a shooting on her small street was the last thing she expected to hear.

“They're a very very nice couple, very nice family,” she said. “We moved here a year and a half ago and everyone is really friendly around here…It just makes you realize that anything can happen anywhere.”

5 On Your Side spoke to a family friend of the couple who was shot. He said they are doing okay. They returned home from the hospital. The friend also said that Mr. Stroisch was a contractor working on the family’s home.
