Having a place to call home is something not everyone has the pleasure of saying, and Sunday one couple who used to be homeless is thanking New Life Evangelistic Center Safe House for helping them get off the streets.

Qunisonta Boyd and his family said their holiday wishes came early after they received keys to their new home after being on the streets for almost a year.

“This our first time seeing the new house. We call it the first day of the rest of our lives," Boyd said.

After being homeless for almost a year Boyd and his family have a new outlook on life. He said it’s because he and his family spent the past nine months sleeping in the streets.

"We became homeless due to loss of jobs financial struggles and stuff like that," Boyd said.

He said things got so bad at one point he was forced to separate from his family.

"From her being in shelters to me sleeping behind the St. Patrick Center on the ground, it was something we had to do for the situation that we were in," Boyd said.

However, things changed drastically when he got a job working at the Fox Theater in housekeeping and the family started attending a new church.

"As of today, we have a new address and a new home. It’s really a blessing," Boyd said.

He said it wouldn’t have been possible without help from New Life Evangelistic Center Safe House. They donated the home the Boyds are now renting.

"You can have peace when you know you have a home and a family to come home to. It’s a beautiful life and I got a beautiful wife,” Boyd said.

Thanks to New Life, their family now has a place to stay, and Boyd said in just five years they will own the home and he's hoping to spend the rest of his life there with his family.
