Community, firefighters and police help family celebrate Christmas after fire

Thanks to Fairview Heights firefighters and the Illinois State police, the family has about $7,000 in cash and Christmas gifts.

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – Christmas came early for a Fairview Heights single mother of five after she and her family lost everything a week ago in a fire that destroyed their home.

After the fire, Dalrnshia Williams and her five children were left with just the clothes on their backs. But now, thanks to Fairview Heights firefighters and the Illinois State police, the family has about $7,000 in cash and Christmas gifts.

Sunday afternoon the family received the gifts at the Fairview Heights fire station on Ashland.

"I didn't know there was a lot of people out there that cared about a stranger, this is amazing. As long as my kids are happy, they smiling, they enjoying they self right about now, it just amazing," Williams said.
