ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — No one was hurt in a crash that resulted in a car fire along Interstate 270 in north St. Louis County Wednesday afternoon.
Riverview Fire Chief Scott Seppelt said a driver on 270 fell asleep behind the wheel and drove off the road at around 4 p.m. The SUV slammed into the bridge that carries Lilac Avenue over 270 and burst into flames.
The driver was the only person in the car and was not injured.
All lanes of eastbound 270 were closed while firefighters put out the fire. It is back open now.
