ST. LOUIS - An Army veteran who served in Iraq and her boyfriend were killed Wednesday night when police said the driver of a stolen car sped through a red light at Natural Bridge Road and Fair Avenue and hit their car.

Tolighta Morrow, 30, and Brian Greer, 36, died in the crash. Morrow’s young daughter was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

“It’s a real tragedy that she went overseas, fought for her country, served over a year in Iraq and then came home to a senseless act and died by a criminal stealing a car,” said Gregory Conners, who served with Morrow in Iraq.

“She always had a smile on her face, literally would light up the room when she walked in,” he said.

All four people in the stolen car were also injured. Police say the 22-year-old driver and a 29-year-old passenger will be charged, and Juvenile Courts will decide how to handle the case for the two teenage passengers.

Morrow’s family said police were chasing the stolen car when the wreck happened, but police dispute that. They told 5 on Your Side a patrol officer was nearby checking for speeders and was about to pull over the stolen car when it crashed. A spokesman tells us the officer had not yet turned on lights or sirens.

Police said they’ve increased patrols in that area because there have been deadly accidents there in the past. Wednesday, the officer wrote 34 citations.
