The owners of St. Louis’ beloved Eat-Rite diner said their plans to save the restaurant fell through, and the diner will remain closed.
“We’re too old. We just can’t do it,” Dorcas Powers told 5 on Your Side.
The diner closed a week and a half ago after an exhaust fan broke, but the owners said the fan isn’t the problem -- they’ve been having trouble staffing the restaurant.
“Really, I think it is time for us. I know it is time,” LB Powers said.
In the days since the ‘Closed’ signs went up, loyal customers have been trying to help in any way they can.
BJ Kraiberg created a GoFundMe page to raise money for the diner.
“Not just is Eat-Rite possibly dying, but a part of St. Louis would die too if Eat-Rite closes,” he said.
The Powers family plans to donate the $1,700 dollars he raised for them.
Kraiberg hopes to see someone buy the business and carry on the Eat-Rite name.
“I think it’d be great if the right person did it,” Dorcas Powers said.
