HEARNE, Texas - The Hearne ISD School Board voted Monday to terminate Raul Nuques, who served as the superintendent since December.

HEARNE, Texas - The Hearne ISD School Board voted Monday to terminate Raul Nuques, who served as the superintendent since December.

The decision was made at a school board meeting with five members voting in favor to part ways with Nuques and two members voting to keep him.

Adrain Johnson is now the interim replacement and started Tuesday. Before coming to Hearne, Johnson served as the superintendent for several districts including La Marque ISD and North Forest. He also worked for the Texas Education Agency.

Johnson wasn't able to do an on-camera interview with us Wednesday but we did sit down with him and discuss his plans for the district.

Johnson said he hasn't met all of the board members yet but plans to do so soon.

He said he's also aware of the districts rocky history over the past year and hopes to use his motto, "TLC Squared," to stabilize the district.

The motto stands for "talk, listen, collaborate," and "tender, loving care."

He also said his experience with the TEA will help the district comply with the agency's investigation.
