Housing project planned near NGA site

North St. Louis development site

Now that plans have been finalized to build a new National Geospatial Agency site in north St. Louis, a local developer is moving ahead with plans for a new mixed-use project in the area.

Developer Paul McKee has been buying land in north St. Louis for decades, and he says he's moving forward with plans to build 3,000 housing units, 500 of which will be built over the next five years.

The first phase of the development will include apartments, houses, and lofts to be built in a 50-block area bounded by St. Louis Place Park, Cass Avenue and North Florissant. Construction is slated to begin in 2017 with a 2018 completion.

The NGA's new headquarters will be a $1.75 billion project that employs over 3,000 people in high-tech jobs with an average salary over $80,000.
