Knost approved to be next Rockwood superintendent

The Rockwood School District Board of Education has approved Dr. Eric Knost as the district's next superintendent.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY – The Rockwood School District Board of Education has approved Dr. Eric Knost as the district's next superintendent.

Knost will begin July 1, 2014. He announced earlier this week he would be leaving the Mehlville School District, where he has served as superintendent since 2011. He made a request to be released from his contract after he was named as a finalist for the position at Rockwood.

"The Board sincerely appreciates the involvement of the Rockwood community in helping to secure our next superintendent. It was very exciting to see representatives of the entire Rockwood community come together and place the focus on what is really most important - what is best for our students," said School Board President Bill Brown. "We are happy to be working with Dr. Knost and look forward to his leadership."

Knost has a bachelor's degree in instrumental music/education from Webster University. He received his Ed.D. from Saint Louis University and his master's degree from Lindenwood University. Before becoming superintendent of the Mehlville district, he served time as principal of Oakville Senior High, assistant principal at Parkway North High School, administrative intern at Woerther Elementary School, and director of bands at Marquette High School. He was also the band director for other Rockwood schools.

The Rockwood School Board approved Knost for a three-year contract at $235,000 per year with a vote of 6-0. Board Director Darby Arakelian did not attend the meeting.
