Man drowns at Gibbon's Creek Reservoir

CARLOS, Texas - A man that went to spend a Sunday fishing with his fiance died after drowning in the Gibbon's Creek Reservoir.

According to the Grimes County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Anthony Schulze and his fiance placed their kayak on the shore and went back to their truck to retrieve snacks and fishing gear.

When Schulze turned around, he realized that his kayak was drifting away. He went to the water and jumped in to swim after it.

As the kayak continued to drift, investigators say that Schulze came under stress and began to struggle. He went under the water and never resurfaced.

The College Station Fire Department Dive Team and Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Warden recovered Schulze's body two hours later. Preliminary autopsy results rule the death as an accidental drowning.
