JEFFERSON, Mo.- Hunters donated 289,292 pounds of venison to help feed the hungry all around Missouri. That's around 5,600 whole deer.
More than a hundred meat processors throughout the state grind the extra deer meat donated by hunters. It is then packaged and given to local food banks, food pantries for anyone in need of food assistance.
It's part of the state's Share the Harvest program between the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Conservation Federation of Missouri.
Last year, hunters donated 198,277 pounds of venison.
