More tapes in Greitens scandal handed over to investigators

Watkins said the recordings are of conversations between Watkins' client and his ex-wife, but would not discuss the nature of the conversations.
Gov. Greitens announces initiative to free up city police officers to focus on violent crime.

ST. LOUIS – Al Watkins, the attorney representing the ex-husband of the woman who had an affair with Eric Greitens, said he has turned over more recordings to the FBI and St. Louis Circuit Attorney.

Watkins said the recordings are of conversations between Watkins' client and his ex-wife, but would not discuss the nature of the conversations.

Last week, Greitens admitted to a 2015 affair but denied allegations of blackmail or violence against the woman.

The FBI did not make a formal request for the recordings, but Watkins sent the recordings to them anyway. St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, who launched an investigation on Thursday, did make a formal request.

Earlier in the day, several Republican lawmakers released statements saying Greitens should consider stepping aside.
