Rapper Nelly files countersuit against woman accusing him of sexual assault

The entertainer, who is being sued by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her last October, filed a countersuit on Friday in Seattle.

SEATTLE, Wash. – St. Louis native and rap star Nelly is firing back against the women accusing him of sexual assault. The entertainer, who is being sued by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her last October, filed a countersuit on Friday in Seattle.

In October, Monique Greene accused Nelly of sexually assaulting her on his tour bus at a Walmart parking lot in Washington state.

Police in Auburn arrested Nelly, but later released him without charges because Greene would not cooperate. Nelly’s attorney Scott Rosenblum tells 5 On Your Side the allegations are completely false.

“He has vigorously and adamantly denied these allegations,” Rosenblum said.

Greene filed a lawsuit against Nelly in December, seeking unspecified damages. Earlier this week, two more women came forward saying he sexually assaulted them in England after his concert.

The victims, who remain unnamed but listed as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 in Greene’s lawsuit, said the rapper sexually assaulted them in separate incidents in June of 2016 and December of 2017.

Jane Doe 1 accused Nelly of grabbing her leg and placing his hand under her skirt without consent on June 9, 2016, according to the lawsuit. Jane Doe 2 claims Nelly groped her and forced her to perform oral sex on him on Dec. 5, 2017. It happened when the two met at his concert in Essex, England, she said.

Rosenblum said he has proof nothing remotely close to what his latest accusers are saying ever happened.

“His girlfriend was with him the entire during this meet and greet which would factually make these allegations impossible,” he said. “We believe that the facts in this case would show that this allegation was spurious from the beginning at that it was an attempt now to defame him and to slander his reputation.”

In the suit, Greene wants a judge to prohibit Nelly from assaulting more women, along with asking for damages. Nelly is countersuing alleging abuse of process, malicious prosecution--civil and criminal--as well as defamation. If he wins, his attorney said he is going to want a public apology.

These accusations come in a time when women have been emboldened to speak out about sexual assault. Rosenblum said Nelly understands that and he is sensitive to women being victimized.

He said he supports both the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. But, in this case, again, he said these allegations are false.

Nelly is expected to appear in court on April 27.
