School's 'Pink Out' supports teen battling cancer

15-year-old Brynn Haun is on her second cancer diagnoses. She has Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

ST. LOUIS — She's battling an aggressive cancer, and for one West St. Louis County teenager, no day is a guarantee.

Thursday night, Parkway West High School came together to celebrate 15-year old Brynn Haun's brave battle against a deadly disease.

Haun is on her second cancer diagnoses. She has Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

“She's rolled with the punches,” said her mother, Lori Haun. “She knows her time is short and tried to make the most of it.”

Brynn's dad, Dan Haun, said she has fought the cancer bravely.

“You fight cancer by the way you live your life, but the way you battle on a daily basis,” he said.

During Thursday night's home basketball team, fans and friends wore pink in honor of Brynn. The cheerleaders led special cheers for her. Many coaches and players on both teams wore pink for the night. Friends handed out pink bracelets and small portions of Brynn's favorite food in the gym lobby. Loved ones set up a box to collect notes full of support for the teen.

And during half time, Parkway West administrators gave Brynn an honorary diploma.

“It's pretty cool,” the teen said, of the crowd that came to support her. “I loved when everyone gathered together. It just shows me the sheer amount of how much people care.”

Brynn even got a recorded message from St. Louis native and actress Jenna Fischer. Fischer stars in one of the teen's favorite television shows, "The Office."

“Your strength of character and your resilience has touched many, many people,” Fischer said in her message to Brynn. “And you are loved. Deeply loved.”

Loved ones set up two online fundraisers for Brynn and her family. You can learn more by visiting the Caring Bridge online, or the GoFundMe account in her name.
