ST. LOUIS – A man robbed a St. Louis woman who is known for helping both people and animals.
Tuesday around 8 p.m., Tina Roe was hanging up flyers for a found dog. She was standing next to her white 2013 Ford Edge near Bellerive Drive and Pennsylvania Avenue when a man approached her.
"He's holding a gun to my back and he asked me for my money," Roe said. "It was total fear. I thought, 'Oh gosh, what am I going to do?'"
The man told her to get in the driver's seat. He got into her car, too, and pulled out two knives.
"He's like, 'Cut the wires, cut the wires,'" Roe said. "Apparently, it was my alarm wires. So, he wound up cutting the wires."
Then, he told her to get out. Once she did, he drove away, not only taking her car but some important items inside.
"I had crates, leashes, harnesses," Roe said. "Anything to rescue a dog off the street."
Roe volunteers for “Missouri Lost & Found Paws” and “MO Min Pin Rescue.” She's so passionate about reuniting lost pets with their owners, she decided to hang more flyers the day after the robbery.
"I can't let it stop me from helping people," Roe said. "I just can't."
Thursday, she hung more flyers to spread the word about a dog named Chopper who has been missing from the Lafayette Park area for about a week.
"I am driving a rental car for the moment," Roe said. "Sadly, the rental company said, 'No pets.'"
Good things are already coming her way. She found her wallet.
"This was a surprise," Roe said. "This was laying on the side when the police came and did the finger prints. Very happy."
She got her phone back, too.
"He actually threw it out the window and said I could come back and get it after he left because phones can be tracked and he obviously knew that," she said.
Roe even convinced him to let her keep a bucket of tools, where she stores zip ties, tape, bug spray, and other items.
Roe's license plate is LOST K9. If you see it, contact police.
