Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway said Tuesday she'd review the city of St. Louis' finances after the Board of Aldermen earlier this month passed a resolution asking for the move.
"Auditor Galloway has exercised her discretion and has agreed to perform the audit," said Michael Moorefield, chief of staff and counsel for Galloway, in a Tuesday letter to the city. "As in any audit performed by the State Auditor's office, concerns expressed to us will be considered; however, the scope of the audit will be determined by the State Auditor's Office."
The Board of Aldermen had asked for a comprehensive audit, which the city must pay for.
The city, which has faced perennial financial problems, has a roughly $1 billion budget.
