Amarillo Police say an armed man who allegedly took hostages at a Walmart store was fatally shot by police.

Amarillo Police say an armed man who allegedly took hostages at a Walmart store was fatally shot by police.

No shoppers, employees or hostages were harmed in the incident, police said. Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect or if he was a Walmart employee.

City officials first reported an "active shooter incident" at the store on Interstate 27 shortly before noon Tuesday. They later confirmed there were no gunshot victims.

The police department stated the incident appeared "to be a workplace violence type event."

KFDA reported that there were several ambulances positioned outside the store as officers made their way in. Police were reportedly looking for a "Somalian man wearing Kakhi pants," KFDA-TV stated.

Police asked people to stay clear of the area and set up a media staging area at a nearby business. They also shut down the I-27 at Georgia northbound frontage road.

The Randall County Sheriff's Office was one of several law enforcement agencies tweeting from the scene.
