Tower Grove man tricks thieves into stealing decoy boxes with cat poop

One Tower Grove South man is filling empty packages with cat waste in hopes of stopping criminals from stealing packages in his neighborhood.

ST. LOUIS -- A St. Louis man is fighting against package thieves in a unique and smelly way.

Jeff Riggs is filling empty package boxes with cat waste to scare off the criminals. He said he wanted to give them a package they would never forget.

Riggs posted a picture on Facebook showing the decoy package on his doorstep in Tower Grove South with cat waste inside the box. He told 5 On Your Side he's tired of package thieves and wanted to send a message to the criminals to think twice about stealing someone else's personal things.

His neighbors said they are frustrated because more and more packages have been stolen in the last few months.

"I think it's frustrating that people would take advantage of my neighbors like that, and I think for the most part that this neighborhood is pretty great," Mona Rife said.
