Trump adviser slams Kasich's convention boycott

Donald Trump's main adviser used the first day of the Republican national Convention to unload on Ohio Governor John Kasich for not endorsing Trump. Paul Manafort made disparaging remarks about the Governor on Morning Joe and to reporters after a Monday breakfast.

Call it a sign that Donald Trump's campaign is not extending an olive branch to critics or those Republicans still withholding their support of them.

So much for unifying he party.

His campaign's chief adviser, Paul Manafort used Tuesday to attack Ohio Governor John Kasich for failing to endorse Trump and accused Kasich of damaging U.S. Sen. Rob Portman's (R-OH) re-election bid.

On MSNBC';s Morning Joe TV show, and speaking to reporters at a breakfast Monday, Manafort called Kasich "petulant" for refusing to back Trump following Kasich's ending of his presidential campaign.

Manafort made similar comments on other TV programs.

Kasich tells Lester Holt that Donald Trump "would have to change everything that he says" in order for Kasich to speak at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, in an exclusive one-on-one that airs tonight on "NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt."

Holt attended a security briefing in Cleveland with the former GOP presidential candidate, who will not attend this week's party convention, according to NBC

"He's embarrassing his party in Ohio," Trump said.

Manafort said Kasich's chief campaign adviser John Weaver believes it would be beneficial to any future Kasich Presidential bid not to endorse Trump.

Manafort called that strategy, "a dumb, dumb, dumb thing."

Kasich does not intend to attend the RNC inside Quicken Loans Arena. He will be at other events, including a Tuesday party for him at the Rock and roll Hall of Fame & Museum.

Manafort also claimed Kasich's non-endorsement is hurting the campaign effort of U.S. Sen. Rob Portman.

Portman is in a re-election fight with former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.

Portman backed Kasich's Presidential bid and is endorsing Trump.

But he has expressed disagreement with some of Trump's inflammatory comments and position on trade.

Portman will attend the convention, but has a very busy schedule of events outside the Q during convention week, claiming he is running his own campaign without relying on Trump's presence at the top of the ticket.
