ST. LOUIS COUNTY – Two people are facing charges in connection with a suspicious death that police said was a burglary and kidnapping.
Sherman Kinchen and Kimberly Cartwright were both charged with burglary, kidnapping and robbery, and Kinchen was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the death of 50-year-old Jeffrey Breitenfeld earlier in March.
Police began their investigation by classifying the death as suspicious but later identified it as a homicide. During their investigation, they identified Kinchen and Cartwright as suspects.
According to the probable cause statement, Kinchen admitted he and Cartwright broke into Breitenfeld's home, attacked him and forced him to get money for them from an ATM. Police said Kinchen told two people he stabbed Breitenfeld and hit him with a golf club in the attack.
Breitenfeld later died from his injuries.
