What's changed in St. Louis while the Loop Trolley hasn't moved an inch

It's been 832 days since work began on the trolley, and for the foreseeable future, it's still off the rails.

ST. LOUIS — If you were hoping to take a ride on the Delmar Loop Trolley this summer, the multi-million dollar project is facing yet another delay.

One of the key figures behind the Trolley, Joe Edwards, tells 5 On Your Side, all of the major construction is done.

Now they're waiting on approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation. But that process, much like the construction before it, has gone painstakingly slow.

How slow? Here's a little perspective:

Since the March 12, 2015 groundbreaking, Missouri has had three sitting Governors. Eric Greitens, in March 2015, was just a former Navy Seal and author. In the time since he's become Governor, moved into the Governor's Mansion, accused of crimes, indicted, threatened with impeachment, resigned and moved out of the Governor's Mansion.

In the same about of time, Shake Shake broke ground, opened up and there's been a permanent line inside there ever since.

Another shack, Radio Shack - you know, America's Technology store? They've closed all of their St. Louis locations since the trolley broke ground.

In March 2015, you could certainly hail a cab to get down the Loop, but that was about it.

Now, Lime Bike, Ofu, Lyft and Uber are just a touch of a smart phone away.

In the Fall of 2015, the St. Louis Rams still called Edward Jones Dome home.

Since then, they've moved and are building a colossal stadium in the "City of Angels."

And get this — if it opens up on time in 2020, Stan Kroenke could build his dream, the new LA stadium, in less time than it's already taken to send the trolley down the tracks.

It's been 832 days since work began on the trolley, and for the foreseeable future, it's still off the rails.

Joe Edwards says he wishes he could tell us an official date for when this will open.

All they can do right now is wait for the Department of Transportation to give them approval.

Joe said, his best guess, is it will open in a few more months.
