Woman charged after fatal stabbing in Berkeley

Police were investigating the incident as a possible drug overdose, but when a medical transport team arrived they found at least one recent wound.

BERKELEY, Mo. – A woman was charged Thursday in a death initially thought to be a drug overdose.

According to a press release from the St. Louis County Police Department, 46-year-old Lachelle Johnson was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action for her role in the death of 55-year-old Paul Jackson.

When police arrived on the 6000 block of Madison Avenue in Berkeley, they found a person Jackson lying in a common area of an apartment complex. Police were investigating the incident as a possible drug overdose, but when a medical transport team arrived they found at least one recent wound.

A medical examination found that the wound was a stab wound and it was ruled the cause of death.

The probable cause statement said Johnson admitted to stabbing Jackson at least twice with a jabber after an altercation.

Her bond was set at $350,000.
