Celeb superlatives: Shia, Lena and 1D

USA TODAY's Kelly Lawler digs through the latest celebrity news for highlights ... and lowlights. Think high school yearbook superlatives — if Shia LaBeouf and Lena Dunham were classmates.

Longest trip for ART: Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf wants you to take him anywhere. Seriously. The actor/performance artist is hitchhiking across the USA for his latest art piece, and inviting fans to come along in the project he is calling #TAKEMEANYWHERE. Joined by two collaborators, Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner, Labeouf is going on a walkabout for the 21st century, asking fans to give him rides based on the GPS coordinates he tweets out, and allowing the first person to pick him up to take him wherever the person chooses. Labeouf, Rönkkö and Turner started off their journey of self discovery in Boulder, Colo., on May 23, and will end it on June 23. Fans can follow their journey with an interactive map in real time. The new project is just the latest in a string of art oddities from the star, who last year live-streamed himself watching all of the movies he's been in in reverse-chronological order. It was surprisingly moving, especially when he was watching Happy Feet

Best recovery from a mistake: Adele

Even superstars sometimes make a mistake. Yes, even the one and only Adele. The British songstress was performing at a recent stop on her world tour and was about to start singing A Million Years Ago off of her new album 25, when the wrong words came out of her mouth. “I know I’m not the only one,” she began, before stopping and saying, “(Expletive) wrong words! (Expletive), (expletive), (expletive)!” Just like you would. “I started singing the chorus,” she said to the crowd. “Sorry!” Don't worry, Adele, we don't care if it's the wrong words so long as we get to hear you sing.

Least apologetic: Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham is not apologizing. At least, she's trying not to anymore. The actor/writer/producer/director penned an essay for LinkedIn about her "apology addiction," aka the gut-need to say "I'm sorry" to diffuse a situation. "I say sorry all day, which doesn't make sense considering I'm not a warlord, a drunk driver, or a pizza delivery guy speeding down 6th Avenue on a fixed gear bike scaring the (expletive) out of pedestrians," she writes. "I am a woman who is sometimes right, sometimes wrong but somehow always sorry." Dunham explained how a challenge from her father to not say "sorry" really helped her. "When I replaced apologies with more fully formed and honest sentiments, a world of communication possibilities opened up to me. I'm just sorry it took me so long."

Most open: Niall Horan of One Direction

Sometimes there's a very dark side to fame. One Direction member Niall Horan opened up on Twitter about harassment and abuse he's received when some "fans" got ahold of his phone number. "For the last two weeks I've been receiving messages (from) a group of fans, they have drowned my phone in messages, keeping me awake at night," Horan shared.  "They have been nothing but abusive," the Irish singer continued. "And the sad thing is, as I tweet this, they are in the group chat laughing at me." Horan says he's OK, but he wanted to shed light on this particular issue. "Don't worry about me," he wrote. "I'm the most carefree, laid-back person around. But I'm just signaling it, because this (expletive) is happening to others."

Weirdest pre-fame job: Leslie Jones

Before she was a Ghostbuster (or at least, she will be officially this July), Saturday Night Live cast member Leslie Jones had a job as a telemarketer for the Church of Scientology. She's not a member of the church; the gig was just to pay her bills. "I lived in Glendale," Jones explained while she and the rest of the new Ghostbusters cast stopped by Ellen. "I needed to pay the rent, and it was a very easy interview. I just acted crazy." "Oh, boy. Now, you're in trouble. I didn't say that," Ellen DeGeneres joked, considering how popular Scientology is in certain segments of Hollywood.
