Cleveland welcomes home Cavaliers for title celebration at airport

It’s been 52 years since its last sports championship, and the city of Cleveland is celebrating in style. Less than 12 hours after Cavaliers fans flooded the streets until the wee hours of the morning after winning their first NBA title in come-from-behind fashion, thousands of those same fans waited to greet their precious Cavaliers at the IX Center next to the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

After making a pit stop in Las Vegas last night to celebrate the long-awaited title, the Delta plane carrying the team finally landed in front of the large maroon-and-gold-clad crowd. With phones in the air ready to record the moment, the crowd erupted as players, who took turns throwing their hands in the air towards the praising Cleveland crowd, began to walk off of the plane.

The noise peaked when LeBron James, sporting a shirt that read “Ultimate Warriors”, made his way off of the plane, carrying the Larry O’Brien Trophy out of the aircraft and hoisting it up with both hands. With chants of M-V-P in the background and confetti falling from the sky, James let out a victory cry for the ages, as he would not let go of the coveted trophy throughout the celebration.

The official parade to celebrate the Cavaliers’ title is scheduled for this Wednesday in downtown Cleveland.
