Folks in the Midwest and East will endure cold weather this weekend that will make it feel more like winter than spring.
The chilly temperatures will stretch from the Northeast into the Great Lakes and parts of the Southeast on Saturday.
The Northeast will only see highs climb into the 30s and 40s Saturday while parts of North Carolina, north Georgia and Tennessee will only rise into the 50s, the Weather Channel predicts.
Those temperatures are about 25 degrees below average in many locations. Freeze and frost watches and warnings are in place all the way from eastern Nebraska to the Southeast coast, a distance of more than 1,300 miles.
A frost or a freeze is probable this weekend as far south as the mountains of northern Georgia, the Weather Underground predicted. The freeze warnings in the Midwest are for early Saturday. In the East, any freezes and frosts would come early Sunday.
Snow will also be an unwelcome guest Saturday in some spots. Cities that could receive some wet snowflakes include Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City, AccuWeather said.
The highest snowfall amounts of up to 4 inches are forecast to fall in the higher elevations of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The East will not see any significant snow Sunday, though some snow is likely in northern Michigan.
On the other side of the country, heavy rain could lead to flooding in southern California.
Cities that can expect drenching rainfall with some thunderstorms include San Diego, Long Beach, Anaheim, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. A few of the storms may be strong to severe, producing hail and gusty winds, AccuWeather meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.
In the central and southern Plains on Sunday, there is a slight chance for severe thunderstorms, the Storm Prediction Center said.
