Dallas beats Seattle to close on MLS West lead

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Dallas moved within a point of the lead in Major League Soccer's Western Conference by beating Seattle 2-0.

The Texas club closed in on lead Colorado, which drew at Columbus, Vancouver kept on their tails by winning a seven-goal thriller at Toronto.

Mauro Diaz and Michael Barrios scored and FC Dallas beat Seattle to end a three-game losing streak.

The Texas club closed in on lead Colorado, which drew at Columbus, Vancouver kept on their tails by winning a seven-goal thriller at Toronto.

Mauro Diaz and Michael Barrios scored and FC Dallas beat Seattle to end a three-game losing streak.

Dallas' Mauro Diaz buried a penalty into the top-left corner of the net in the third minute after Walker Zimmerman drew a foul in the box against Seattle's Chad Marshall.

It remained 1-0 until the 80th minute when Michael Barrios played a give-and-go with substitute Mauro Rosales and slotted the pall through the legs of a defender and past the goalkeeper to seal the victory and end Dallas' run of three straight defeats. They remain unbeaten in seven home games this season.

Colorado extended its unbeaten run to seven games by drawing 1-1 at Columbus.

The Crew went ahead in the 23rd minute through Cedrick Mabwati but Colorado equalized in the 55th when Kevin Doyle headed in a corner.

Columbus, which traded scoring leader Kei Kamara to New England on Thursday, is winless in three games.

Vancouver's Kekuta Manneh and Pedro Morales scored two minutes part in the second half to help the Whitecaps win 4-3 at Toronto in chilly conditions.

Manneh and Christian Bolanos scored to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead 18 minutes into the game but Sebastian Giovinco then scored twice to pull Toronto even, moving into sole possession of the franchise record for career MLS goals with Nos. 29 and 30. His 37th-minute goal came after strike partner Jozy Altidore missed a penalty and left immediately afterward with a hamstring issue.

Four minutes after Giovinco's equalizing goal in the 66th minute, Manneh restored the Vancouver lead and captain Morales added an insurance marker two minutes later.

Vancouver fullback Fraser Aird was sent off in the 75th minute for a second yellow and Toronto's Drew Moor scored in the 80th minute to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Philadelphia's C.J. Sapong scored the equalizing goal in the 24th minute to give the Union a 1-1 draw against Montreal.

New England's Lee Nguyen scored in the 22nd minute and the Revolution added a late goal to beat Chicago 2-0.
