Donald Trump ally secures $32 million for new super PAC

A new super PAC has emerged to support Donald Trump's presidential bid, and its organizers say they have locked down big financial pledges.

Close Trump ally Tom Barrack told CNN on Thursday that the super PAC, Rebuilding America Now, has secured $32 million in commitments from about four donors and will be overseen by Ken McKay, a former campaign aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Christie quickly endorsed Trump earlier this year after abandoning his own presidential bid, and Barrack is a long-time Trump associate who recently hosted the real-estate magnate's first large fundraising event.

Barrack did not immediately respond to a USA TODAY interview request.

The involvement of people closely aligned with Trump — and the size of the early donations — signal that Rebuilding America Now could become the main outside fundraising vehicle for Trump's White House campaign.

Two other super PACs previously opened for business to back Trump, but donors have expressed confusion about where to send their money. In addition, reports emerged this week that billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson was considering launching another super PAC to aid Trump. Adelson, who spent more than $90 million to influence the 2012 presidential race, endorsed Trump's candidacy last month.

Super PAC can raise unlimited amounts from virtually any source but are barred from coordinating their spending with the candidates they back.
