A former corrections officer told investigators he had sex with an inmate because he was "weak," according to court documents.
Lamont Williams said he had "never been a weak person" in the past, but when he had sex with an inmate while working at the Indiana Women's Prison, he "was just weak."
Charges were filed Monday in Marion Superior Court against Williams, who faces two counts of sexual misconduct and one count of official misconduct related to incidents at the prison in October 2014 and January 2015.
Indiana State Police officials told IndyStar that Williams, 55, was taken into custody without incident Monday and has been booked into the Marion County Jail.
State Police detectives began investigating Williams last July, after they were contacted by an internal affairs officer at the prison. An inmate told the officer that Williams had sex with her on two occasions while he was on the job.
The inmate, according to court documents, saved Williams' semen in a tissue after she had performed oral sex on him. Police were able to match Williams' DNA with the evidence in the tissue.
Her first encounter with Williams happened Oct. 25, 2014, court records state. The inmate told detectives that she was in a custodian closet, trying to fix a mop handle, when Williams came into the closet, grabbed her from behind, pulled her pants and underwear down to her ankles and tried to have sex with her, court documents said.
She started bleeding and Williams stopped, the inmate told detectives.
A few months later, Williams approached the inmate again, this time unzipping his pants in the doorway of her cell. The inmate told investigators that she thought, "OK, I'm going to get him."
After Williams finished, the inmate kept his semen in a tissue and turned it over to the prison's internal affairs officer.
When Williams was first approached by detectives in December 2015, he denied ever having sex with an inmate. "Nope never had," he said, according to court documents. He even agreed to take a polygraph test and give a DNA sample.
But he failed the polygraph test, and his DNA came back as a match to the semen in the tissue, court records state.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid," Williams said, crying, after detectives told him "he was being deceptive" during the polygraph. He then admitted to having oral sex with the inmate, "maybe twice," court documents said.
"I was weak," Williams told investigators. "I have never been that weak before."
He said it all "happened so fast" and accused the inmate of pursuing him.
Williams was hired as a correctional officer at the Plainfield Correctional Facility in March 2007, a spokeswoman for the Indiana State Personnel Department told IndyStar. During his tenure, he was a corrections officer at the Indiana Women's Prison from October 2012 to March 2015, before transferring back to Plainfield.
The Department of Correction fired him Feb. 1.
"Mr. Williams was terminated due to unacceptable behavior not meeting agency standards," said Ashley Emsweller Hungate, the personnel department's spokeswoman.
Other than his termination, there were no complaints or disciplinary actions listed in Williams' personnel file, Hungate said.
IDOC officials said Friday they could not respond to questions because Williams had not been arrested. A spokesman for the department said they would respond to IndyStar's questions Tuesday morning.
Williams is being held in the Marion County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
