The gunman suspected of fatally shooting The Voice singer Christina Grimmie has been identified as Kevin James Loibl of St. Petersburg, Fla.

The 27-year-old, who shot and killed himself after shooting Grimmie, was not known by the singer, according to Orlando Police Chief John Mina. Detectives are using cyber investigation to determine why Loibl traveled from St. Petersburg to Orlando attack Grimmie after a show Friday night at the Plaza Live Theater.

Little is known about the shooter, other than the fact his current address includes two other residents. He didn't have a criminal record, nor did he have a permit for firearms.

The motive remains unknown, but he "may have been a deranged fan," according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Loibl was armed with two guns and a hunting knife, police said.

At Loibl’s home, in St. Petersburg, someone had left a note on the front door, expressing the “deepest sorrow” for the loss “to the family, friends & fans of the very talented, loving Christina Grimmie,” The Associated Press reported. The note said there would be no other comment. No one answered the door to the one-story house that had a rusted, metal animal trap in the yard.
