GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer and Juan Uribe went deep for the first time with the Cleveland Indians during their 10-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.
Brewers starter Taylor Jungmann pitched four scoreless innings before the Indians loaded the bases with nobody out in a four-run fifth. Jose Ramirez hit into a double play before Lindor sent his drive into the right-field seats.
"That double play could have snuffed it out but we kept the line moving," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "We did some good things that inning. I don't care what time of year it is, you're looking for good things."
Jungmann has allowed five home runs in his last two games. His 4 2/3 innings marked his longest stint this spring.
"If you go back and look at my spring training stats over five years, they are pretty awful," Jungmann said. "Whether it is here on the big league side or the minor league side, it's pretty ugly."
Scooter Gennett homered twice for Milwaukee, a two-run drive off Cody Anderson in the third and a solo shot in the sixth.
"I feel comfortable in the box. I'm swinging at good pitches. That's the key for me," Gennett said.
Anderson and Josh Tomlin are competing for the fifth spot in the Indians' rotation.
"Anderson, he had power to his fastball. He pitched down in the zone," Francona said. "That was impressive. He seemed to get stronger and stronger."
Uribe had two hits. He signed on Feb. 28 and missed a week with visa problems but is batting .318 this spring.
"He's always ready to hit. You throw it over the plate, he's ready," Francona said.
Collin Cowgill, still in the hunt for one of the Indians' five outfield spots, hit a three-run homer in the ninth off Ariel Pena. Cleveland catcher Roberto Perez had three hits and caught two runners stealing.
Martin Maldonado and Ramon Flores had two hits apiece for the Brewers.
FUNNY BUNNY
Gennett was chosen by his teammates to put on an Easter Bunny head before the game.
"It was a lot of fun," Gennett said. "At first when I heard I was the Easter Bunny, I thought, oh gosh, here we go. Being a small guy and a young guy, it's a role I've got to play. It was fun seeing the kids smile and they wanted to hug me. It was kind of cool. I found myself smiling, which was weird, because I had a head on."
STARTING TIME
Brewers: Jungmann allowed two home runs. His progression has been four innings, 4 1/3 innings and 4 2/3 innings in his last three starts. He has given up 10 runs and 12 hits in his last two starts.
"I was out of whack the whole outing," Jungmann said. "It's not something you can see in my mechanics but it just doesn't feel right."
Indians: Anderson gave up Gennett's two homers that accounted for the Brewers' three runs. He pitched six innings, allowing six hits and no walks. He struck out seven.
"Cody was very good," Francona said. "He left an off-speed pitch up to Gennett. It was a game where he gave up two home runs but can leave feeling good."
TRAINER'S ROOM
Brewers: OF Ryan Braun still expects to be ready by opening day. He missed his fourth straight game with a stiff back.
Indians: RF Lonnie Chisenhall started his first game since reporting a tight right forearm. ... LF Michael Brantley will not be in the lineup on opening day despite making major progress following offseason shoulder surgery. Brantley had targeted the April 4 opener against Boston as his return date. However, Francona said Cleveland's best all-around player is not quite ready and will not be in left field on opening day. After a consultation with Dr. Mark Schickendantz, Brantley will rest his surgically repaired shoulder.
ROSTER MOVES
Brewers: Reassigned RHP David Goforth to minor league camp.
Indians: Released OF Will Venable and LHP Joe Thatcher.
