Louisiana woman credits ketogenic diet for helping her lose 150 pounds

Her change came after an embarrassing incident.

NEW ORLEANS — A popular, high-fat diet is helping a Louisiana woman shed some pounds. She is pushing the low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet.

Withholding carbs puts your body into what's called ketosis mode by forcing it to use stored fat. Candace Brisco told NBC station WDSU the diet helped her get down to 165 pounds from her high of 315 pounds.

Her change came after an embarrassing incident.

"The seamstress laughed and told me that I would have to get another size 14 dress for her to sew together,” she said. “I was by myself and really embarrassed and ashamed."

Experts say you should talk to a doctor before starting it. Some foods you can eat on this diet include seafood, cheese, meat and poultry and plain Greek yogurt.
