Whoa: Kanye's 'The Life of Pablo' racks up 250 million streams

Where Kanye goes, the people will follow.

Where Kanye goes, the people will follow.

When Kanye West streamed his new album The Life of Pablo exclusively with TIDAL, the streaming service got a huge boost. And today, we now know exactly how huge. The Life of Pablo was streamed 250 million times in its first 10 days, boosting TIDAL's global subscriptions to over three million, the service announced in a press release.

Billboard reports that not only were listeners compelled enough by Kanye's album to pay for TIDAL, but they paid extra. 45 percent of TIDAL's subscribers pay for "lossless" CD-quality audio on its $19.99 high fidelity service, which is twice the price of its cheapest subscription.

But TIDAL still has a ways to go to catch up with their music streaming competition, Billboard reports; Apple Music has 11 million paid subscribers, while Spotify hit 30 million subscribers last week.

Not a TIDAL fan? Whatever you do, don't tell Kanye.

Ahead of its release as a single, the Pablo track Famous is streaming on Spotify — listen below.
