What do cookies, socks and dice have in common?

According to NationalDayCalendar.com, they all have national holidays on Dec. 4.

But National Cookie Day is the one to cheer about because this made up holiday features free cookies and sweet treats.

The day to celebrate the cookie was founded in 1987 by Matt Nader of Blue Chip Cookie Company.

Coolhaus: At scoop shops, get a free cookie with purchase of any sammie, scoop or shake Monday.

Great American Cookies: Get one free original chocolate chip cookie at participating stores Monday. No purchase necessary and limit one per customer.

Hot Box Cookies: Get a free chocolate chip cookie Monday when you retweet this tweet and show your cashier.

Insomnia Cookies: Get a free traditional cookie with any in-store purchase Monday at the chain’s 123 retail stores. Choose from nine traditional cookie flavors including Chocolate Chunk, Double Chocolate Chunk, Peanut Butter, Classic with M&M’s, Snickerdoodle, Sugar, Oatmeal Raisin, Double Chocolate Mint, and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut.

Kroger: As part of the grocery store chain’s 25 Merry Day campaign for National Cookie Day, visit the chain’s website, www.25merrydays.com, to download discounts for cookie products and to find the featured cookie of the day recipe.

Nestlé Toll House Café by Chip: Get a free regular cookie at participating locations. No purchase necessary and limit one per person.

Penn Station East Coast Subs: With any sandwich purchase Monday, get a free chocolate chunk cookie bite.

Whole Foods Market: Get 50% off items at the chain’s cookie bar. According to a news release, the bars include seasonal offerings and frosted treats unique to each store.
