In a victory speech Wednesday celebrating the passage of the GOP tax bill, President Trump joked while recognizing House Majority Whip Steve Scalise that being shot was "a hell of a way to lose weight."
Scalise was among four people shot by a gunman in June at a GOP baseball practice in Alexandria, Va. He spent four months in the hospital recovering from near-death wounds before returning to Congress.
From the White House, Trump ribbed Scalise for losing weight during his recovery:
"Steve Scalise, he's braver than all of us. Oh boy, I don't know, you had a rougher year than most of us. It's a hell of a way to lose weight, Steve. Not in a good way. We love you Steve."
Trump praised other Republican lawmakers at the pep-rally style event for the Republican victory, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan.
