Oh, pesky internet. You always get to those gullible people.
Over the weekend, a rumor began circulating that Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants" was coming to an end on March 1, 2018. A fake tweet from what appears to be the verified "SpongeBob SquarePants" Twitter account seems to be causing the confusion. The "tweet" confirms the show's end date and displays gratitude to its viewers — plus, to go the extra mile, it includes a screen grab of a teary-eyed SpongeBob himself.
But don't worry, Bikini Bottom fans, the tweet is false. The show's official Twitter account, @SpongeBob, has not tweeted what's shown above. Entertainment Weekly also reported last year that Nickelodeon ordered 26 more episodes of the show, renewing it through 2019.
So relax, you Squidwards. The adventures of SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy and company will roll on for at least another year.
This isn't the first time a rumor like this has circulated. Snopes did a fact-check in 2016 about a similar claim that the show would end in October 2016. That claim was found, obviously, to be false.
