North Carolina man arrested for unreturned VHS rental from 2002

According to a story published in the Washington Post, a North Carolina man was arrested because he had an outstanding warrant issued because he failed to return a VHS movie he rented 14 years ago.

James Meyers, 37, told his story in a video that went viral about how he was driving his daughter to school and was pulled over by a police officer because he had a broken brake light only to find out that he had a warrant for his arrest.

In the video, Meyers states that the officer, himself, thought enough of the situation that rather than arrest him on the spot, he allowed Meyers to take his daughter to school and show up at the police department later that day to deal with the warrant.

The movie in question? Freddie Got Fingered: a comedy starring Tom Green that barely made it's $14 million production budget back during its theatrical run and currently has an 11 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The New York Daily News got a hold of Tom Green and the star of the film offered to pay the fine that Meyers had to pay for the warrant.

“I don’t even think that it would have been as strange of a story if it had been another movie,” Green told the Daily News.

The Daily News story also states that Meyers has re-watched the movie since the incident and still thinks that it is funny.
